3/(x-4) = 1 + (5)/(x+4)

3 / [x-4] =1 +5/[x+4]

place over lowest common denominator [LCD] =[x-4][1][x+4]
3 [x+4] /LCD] =[ x-4][x+4] /LCD +5[x-4] / LCD
multiply both sides by LCD and clear brackets x not =4 or -4
3x+12 = x^2-16 +5x-20
0=x^2+2x-48 factor
0=[x+8][x-6]
x=-8 or x=6 answers
