Please Help, word problems are killing me. If I give the problem could somebody please help me convert it to an Algebraic problem. Here goes:

Find two consecutive even intergers such that the sum of the larger and twice the smaller is 62.

If anyone could please help it will be greatly appreciated.

Pick a variable for the first number. Write an expression, in terms of this variable, for the next number. (Hint: How far apart are consecutive even [or odd] integers?)

Write an expression, in terms of the first expression, for "two times" of this larger number.

Write another expression, in terms of the original variable, for "two time" of the smaller number.

Add the two last expressions, set the sum equal to the given total, and solve for the variable.

If you get stuck, please reply showing how far you have gotten in following these steps. Thank you.

Eliz.

help....
let x = the first number (this is the smaller number)
then x+2 is the second number

then
2x+ (x+2) = 62
and solve

Thank You
