Please Explain with Examples

3y2(squared)+10y/(divided)2y=

3y2(squared)+10y/(divided)2y= 3y^2 + (10y)/(2y)

Do you want to simplify?

(10y)/(2y) = 5; ( 10/2 = 5 and y/y = 1)

Answer: 3y^2 + 5

In the future, please state clearly what your problem is and show what work you've attempted.

3y(squared)+10y(divided by)2y

Yes, could you please simplify?

I've tried adding 3y and 10y together to get 13y, and then dividing by 2y.
I came up with 6.5y.

The book says the answer is 1.5y + 5, and I'm still trying to figure out how they got that anwer. The examples in the book are terrible.

The 10y/2y is just 5. That's all the simplification you can do to "3y2 + (10y/2y)".

Thanks, I got the answer, but I was making it harder than it really was.

I forgot I was supposed to divided 3 by 2 to get 1.5y, and 10/2 to get 5

IF that's the case, then your 1st term is 3y / 2, NOT 3y^2;
be CAREFUL, please!

IF 1st term is 3y^2, then answer is 3y^2 + 5 (you've already been told that twice)
