(5a^3 – 2a^2) + (– 7 – 5a^3) – (– 2a^2 + 2a)

=[(5a^3 -5a^3)] + [(-2a^2-2a^2)] -(-7) - (2a)

=[(5-5]a^3] + [(-2-2)a^2] - (-7) - (2a)

=a^3 +a^2 -7 -2a

= a^3 +a^2 -7 -2a

How did you get that 5 - 5 equalled 1?

Eliz.

I'm not the one who said that five minus five equalled one. I'm the one saying that it doesn't. So I can't very well explain to you how it is, when it isn't.

Look at where you change

(5-5 a^3 into a^3 (which is 1a^3) --- hence you imply 5-5 = 1
