tkhunny is right about the answer, but let me show you how to find it.

X - 2 = -3 (solve for X by isolating it)
X = +2 - 3
X = -1


I don't like word problems much, myself. Give me a plain old equation or problem any day. The best thing to do is pick out the necessary bits; I write down what information I'm being given that actually affects the problem.
