Determine which of the following points satisfy the inequality:

2x > 3y –5 ( 1, 7/3) (0, 5/3) (3, 7/3)

2(1)>3(7/3)-5
2>16/3-5
2>5 1/3-5
2>1/3 which is true

2(0)>3(5/3)-5
0>14/3-5
0>4 1/3-5
0>-2/3 which is false

2(3)>3(7/3)-5
6>16/3-5
6>5 1/3-5
6>1/3 which is true

Are any of the above correct?
 
For the first one, how did you get that (3/1)(7/3) equalled 16/3, rather than 7?

For the second one, how did you get that (3/1)(5/3) equalled 14/3, rather than 5? Why do you think that zero is less than a negative number?

For the third one, same question as for the first one.

Then you might want to spend some time working with them, because, as you've seen, they come up a lot. You might also find it helpful to work with the improper fractions, rather than converting back and forth between improper fractions and mixed numbers.
