Simplify the difference quotient [f(a + h) - f(a)]/h for f(x) = 2/(x - 1)

In this case, wo uld the answer be?

-1/[(a + 1 + h)(a + 1)]

I may have my signs wrong..........

You are really close. If you had shown your intermediate steps, maybe I could tell you wehre you wondered off.

I get -2/[(a-1)*(a+h-1)]

Simplify the difference quotient ..............
