I am having a great deal of trouble doing problems such as:
If the math operation x o y is defined in terms of ordinary addition and multiplication to be 2x+3y
What does 5 o (8 o 2) =
What does (5 o 8 ) o 2 =
Can you explain this to me, or perhaps recommend a web site for information and more examples?

Though in general I have never seen something like this,

Since x o y = 2x+3y, then

8 o 2 = 2*8+3*2

and 5 o (8 o 2) = 2*5 + 3*(2*8 + 3*2).

Just follow the statement and substitute for x and y.

Thanks, your explanation was clear. I'm still having trouble, guess it takes practice. (P.S. this is a compass question)
