I havent quite gotten to this section in the book so this is all new to me
the derictions say solve, but i dont know how
here is the problem: (y+7)(y-3)=0

here is the second problem: x(x-3)=0

i dont know what im supposed to do and i dont have my book with me
please help me through this
thanx :D

(y+7)(y-3)=0 means y + 7 = 0 or y - 3 = 0;
so y = -7 or y = 3
Get that?
Do the other one.

okay for x(x-3)=0...
You know that one of those sets has to be 0. So either that x = 0 and no matter wut (x-3) is the equation is still going to equal 0. OR (x-3) is wut equals 0 so thats going to make the equation 0 no matter wut the outside x is.

so you have x=0 because the only possible answer for the outside one to be 0 is so Or
you have x=3 because if u want (x-3) to be 0 ur only possible solution is 3.

so you write down x= 3 or x= 0

And the next one...

(y+7)(y-3)=0

one of those sets has to be 0 in order for the equation to equal 0 in the end

so either (y+7)=0 in which case y= -7

or (y-3)=0 in which case y=3

so you write down y=3 or y= -7

hey denis and madelynnnnnnnnnnn
thanks A-LOT for helping me with thoses problems i dont think i could have gotten them without your help :p
