I have no idea on how to start this problem.........

2x^2-x=3

Can someone please tell me the first step to start off with

Begin by rearranging the equation so that all terms are on the left-hand side and it equals 0. Then you can solve it by factoring.
 
One more hint. The answer is in the form
(2x+a)(x+b)
so you must find a & b so that a+2b=-1 and a*b=-3
