I am trying to make sense of theis problem:
A 40cm spring will stretch (in cm ) one third the weight (in kg) attached to it How long will the spring be if a 15-kg weight is attached?

i connected the problem with what we are currently learning about (functions):

I know that it gives me the length and the weight of the spring. Then, it is saying that the spring will stretch 1/3 the weight attached to it (weight =15-kg). I also know that the spring is 40 cm long. I came up with the following:
L(w)=1/3(w)+40
L(w)=1/3(15)+40=45cm

I would be incredibly greatful if someone verified my work, for reassurance. :)
Thank you!

it will stretch 1/3 the weight attached to it
15 kg are attached to it
1/3 of 15 is 5
it will stretch 5 cm
the new length is 45 cm
