I feel so dumb. I'm trying to help my sister but I can't remember how to turn this word problem into an equation. Here's the question:
A mixture of animal feed from soy and oats must contain 100 lbs. protein, 20 lbs. fat, and 9 lbs mineral ash.
100lb Soy sack = $20
. . . . . . . . . . . . .= 50 lbs protein
. . . . . . . . . . . . .= 10 lbs fat
. . . . . . . . . . . . .= 8 lbs mineral ash
100lb Oat sack = $10
. . . . . . . . . . . . .= 20 lbs. protein
. . . . . . . . . . . . .= 5 lbs. fat
. . . . . . . . . . . . .= 1 lb mineral ash
How many sacks of each should be used to satsify the requirements at a minimal cost.
To me it seems like 2 sacks of soy are needed, but I can't express that in an equation. How would that be done?
