 Sirs, Is there a easy way to remember the formula in subtracting real numbers? I have dropped algebra this past spring and am now in summer school and still having problems with this. Any help would be great!

Do you understand money?
If you spend less than you have, is your balance positive?
If you charge more than you have do you have a negative cash flow?
If you do understand that, apply it to real number operations.

10 - 3 = 7

3 - 10 = -7

Unless you SPECIFY where you're stuck, or give an example,
that's about all we can do for you 8-)

My Answer

Real numbers contain all limits. In other word, real numbers are complete. Just remember, when you calculating anything you must consider all possibilities.

How is that going to help someone who doesn't know how to subtract, Doc :?:

My Answer

Here what you must understand when subtracting real numbers.

a - b = a + (-b) or a - (-b) = a + b

Example: 5 - 10 = 5 + (-10) or 5 - (-10) = 5 + 10

When you do have more than one mathematical operation, you need to use the order of operations as listed below. This is the rule that you must follow (Remember the rule below.)

Step 1: Calculate all Parenthesis or grouping symbols
Step 2: Calculate all Exponents (and radicals)
Step 3: Calculate all Multiplication/Division left to right
Step 4: Calculate all Addition/Subtraction left to right

Good luck!
