problem solving:

A bus traveling at an average rate of 30 miles per hour left the city at 11:45 AM. A car following the bus at 45 miles per hour left the city at noon. At what time did the car catch up with the bus?

Please help!
Thank u~

The car will catch the bus when they have travelled the same distance.

Distance= (rate)(time)

The bus will have travelled \(\displaystyle 30t\) miles.

The car left 15 minutes later, so it travels \(\displaystyle 45(t-1/4)\)

Equate and solve for t. Add to 11:45.

Remember, t will be in hours, not minutes. For instance, 1/4 hr. equals 15 minutes.
