How would I solve the following for x?

. . .x^2 - 5x - 36 = 0

My teacher told me that we needed to seperate the quadratic into two sets of parentheses, like this: (. . .)(. . .)

It seems odd that your instructor didn't cover the topic before assigning exercises. Fortunately, there are many online resources available. We can't replace the missing classroom instruction, so try these instead:

. . . . .Google results for "factor quadratic"

. . . . .Google results for "solve factoring"

Once you have studied some lessons and learned the basic terms and techniques, please attempt this exercise. If you get stuck, please reply clearly showing what you have tried so far.

Thank you.

Eliz.
