1/2Y - 2 = 1/3Y

1/2Y - 1/3Y = 2

Multiply through by 6Y and solve.

Dear Danielle, don’t panic. First turn off your “Caps Lock” when you type messages. In cyber-speak (espeak?), capital letters mean you’re shouting.

You haven’t shown any work yet, so I’m not sure where you’re stuck. Possibly, you find this problem daunting because it contains fractions. Here’s just one easy way to get rid of them: Look at the denominators; we have a 2 and a 3. Multiply them to get 6. This means that if we multiply both sides of the equation by 6, the fractions will disappear:

6*(1/2Y-2)=(1/3Y)*6
3Y – 6 = 2Y
