x^2 - 2y^2 = 8
4x^2 + 12y^2 = 112

I need help I cannot figure out what to do with all the squared variables. I thought that I needed to use the elimination method but I may be wrong.

If this is part of the same take-home test, I again won't do the problem for you. Let me say, however, that I've done it by elimination and substitution, so both methods work. Look for example problems in your textbook to show you how to do it.

Solve one of the equations for a squared variable (not the variable itself, but the square of it), and then plug that into the other equation for that squared variable. Then solve that.
