There are 1025 Tennis players participating in a single's elimination tournament. How matches must be played before there is one winner and 1024 losers?

every time we have a match we eliminate 1 player
How many players do we wish to eliminate? 1024 players
We must play 1024 matches

I'm familiar with "single" elimination, where all the teams are paired off for the first round, and then only the winners of the first round move on to the second round. But I can't find any information on "single's" elimination...?

Naturally, were the contest single elimination, you'd take the starting number, then halve it, then halve again, etc (assuming "match" means "round"). But other sorts of eliminations work in different ways.
