Help with a Math question..?
If a counting number is divisible by 6 and 8, it must be divisible by 48. Why or why not? Can anyone give me some examples. I need to be able to explain this to elementary students...any info would help me alot. Thanks!!

Hello, tseday871221!

If a counting number is divisible by 6 and 8, it must be divisible by 48. .no
Why or why not?

\(\displaystyle 24\) is divisible by 6 and divisible by 8, but it is not divisible by 48.

If a number is divisible by \(\displaystyle a\) and divisible by \(\displaystyle b\),
. . then it is divisible by the LCM (least common multiple) of \(\displaystyle a\) and \(\displaystyle b.\)

If \(\displaystyle a\) and \(\displaystyle b\) are relatively prime (share no common factors),
. . then the number is divisible by \(\displaystyle a\cdot b\)

No offense but... You're the teacher, and you can't figure this out...?
