Hey, could you help me solve: (x + 11) / 4 = 3 - x

Could you tell me the steps to solving it please I would be very gratefull and appreciative.

Thanks Cris

Start by multiplying both sides by 4 to eliminate the fraction.

Cris, can you solve this:
3x - 2 = x + 4
...to see where you're at :shock:

Sorry I havent replied In a while I had a family emergancy!

would that be: (4x + 44) = 12 - 4x

so from this step would you solve/find x! by basic solving?

Thanks! do you move the 4 across so its negative then its 3x - 4 -2 = x so -- = +, therefore 3x - 6 = x
Am I right? or have I gone wrong?

Thanks again!

Cris

Your right Cris but there's an easier way:

3x (-x) - 2 (+2) = x (-x) + 4 (+2)

2x = 6

x = 3

Now for:\(\displaystyle \L \;\frac{x + 11}{4}\,=\,3\,-\,x\)

Multiply by 4:\(\displaystyle \L \;\frac{{\not 4}}{1} \cdot \frac{{x + 11}}{{\not 4}} = 3 - x\)

Now you have:\(\displaystyle \L \;x\,+\,11\,=\,3\,-\,x\)

...Can you find \(\displaystyle x\)?

Hmmm....so what is the value of x ?

Thanks for the Help!

x + 11 = 3 - x

= Can you move x across so its:

11 = 3 + x

then fron there could you subtract 3 - 11 as you move the 3 across

so its 8 = x :?:

Thanks for doing this I appreciate it :D

I have never understood algebra solving!

Cris

so to find x do you then go and move the 3x across to the x so:

-6 = x - 3x

so

-6 = -2x

-6 = x
. 2

so x = -2

Is that right? or have I made a mistake somewhere?

Thanks again!
