three word problems...idk how to do them

#1 is:

A certain candy sells for 1.80 per pound while another kind of candy sells for 3.00 per pound. If 15 pounds of cand mix sell for 2.20 per pound; how much of each kind are in the mixture?

#2 is:

Orchestra seats cost 5.00 per person and balcony seats cost 3.00 per person. If 508 people bought tickets costing a total of 2118, find the number of orchestra and number of balcony seats purchased...

#3 is:

Lisa has $20,000 to invest in her bank account. She wishes to invest part at 10% and part at 14%. how much should she invest at each rate if she wishes to recieve a total of $2200 simple interest from both investments in a year

Re: Need Help for Tomorrow!!! Passing depends on this!!!

Let's say there were x pounds of the first candy. There were 15 - x pounds of the second candy in the mix, then.

The total cost would be: $[1.80x + 3(15 - x)].

Equate this to $2.20 and solve.

Orchestra seats cost 5.00 per person and balcony seats cost 3.00 per person. If 508 people bought tickets costing a total of 2118, find the number of orchestra and number of balcony seats purchased...

Let's say that among all of the purchases, x people purchased orchestra tickets, then 508 - x people purchased balcony tickets.

So [5.00*x + 3.00(508 - x)] was the total cost.

Equate this to 2118 and solve.

Simple interest formula. Same concept.

x = 10% portion; so 14% portion = 20000 - x

.10x + .14(20000 - x) = 2200

Good luck and bonne chance :idea:
