Ratio and Proportion: x/24 = 2.5 & 5 1/2 x = 550

Hi! I need help with these two questions. Can someone tell me how I would find the answer?


x/24 = 2.5

&

5 1/2 x = 550

Separate the variable (x) from the rest of the equation.

\(\displaystyle \frac{x}{{24}} = 2.5 \\
x = 2.5*24 \\
x = 60 \\\)

\(\displaystyle 5*\frac{1}{2}x = 550 \\
\frac{1}{2}x = \frac{{550}}{5} \\
\frac{x}{2} = 110 \\
x = 110*2 \\
x = 220 \\\)
 
Just plug the answer into x, and see if it is equal to the other side.

\(\displaystyle \frac{x}{{24}} = 2.5
\\\)

So, is:

\(\displaystyle \frac{{60}}{{24}}\)

equal to:

2.5

Same for the other one.
