I have to calculate this word problem. I came up with two answers. The problem is:

Casey pays $571.34 for a 20 inch LCD television. The total includes a 6% sales tax. What was the price of the television?

I followed an example in my textbook and the equation was like this:

..P+0.06p=571.34
1P+0.06p=571.34
.......1.o6p=571.34
..............p=539

another way I did it was on my calculator. I put in 571.34 times 6% and got 537.06

which is the solution? :?:

this is the correct solution ... (539)(1.06) = 571.34

this is bogus ... how is (571.34)(.06) = 537.06 ???
