1. Find the x-intercept(s) of the graph of 3y = 4x - 1.

2. Find the y-intercept(s) of the graph of 3y = 4x - 1.

3. Select all points which are on the graph of the equation y =sqrt 3x-4 .

a. (13/3, 3)

b. (0, -2)

c. (1, -1)

d. (4, 3)

e. (4/3, 0)

4. If the point (a, 4) is on the graph of 2x + y = 7, what is the value of a?

5. How would you enter the equation y + x2 = -1 into your calculator in order to graph it?

you set y=0
3(0)=4x-1
0=4x-1
(1/4,0)

you set x=0
3y=4(0)-1
3y=0-1
3y=-1
(0,-1/3)

a=1 1/2

i am not sure on this one???
 
#3 - That depends on what you mean by what you have written.

\(\displaystyle \sqrt{3}x-4\)

\(\displaystyle \sqrt{3x}-4\)

\(\displaystyle \sqrt{3x-4}\)

It DOES make a difference when you write clearly.

#5 - That depends on what you mean by "x2" and what calculator you are using. Generally, you can define a function pretty much like you have it.

Other than that, it looks like you are on the right track.

i am not used to inserting images and figures on this forum so forgive me as i try to reexplain #3.

number 3 is 3x-4 under the square root symbol. the whole phrase is under the bar.

on #5, i am not sure how to enter it in to graph the function...i am guessing it is assumed it will be on a scientific graphic calculator. any ideas?

Well, feel free to learn.

Have you tried parentheses or Karl's Notes?

Well, that clears it up. :roll: Of course it's a scientific calculator. Have you read your manual?
