Complete with a variable expression

An apple has 29 more calories than a peach and 13 fewer calories than a banana. If a peach ha sp calories, then there ____ calories om a fruit salad made with one apple, two peaches, and one banana.

This is the answer:
(p +29) + 2p + (p + 42)

I know they get the p + 42 by adding 13 to 29, but I don't understand why.

Please help

May I send three problems a week?

A = P + 29
A = B - 13 or B = A + 13
1 peach has p calories

1 apple, 2 peaches and 1 banana have

...A........P........B
(p + 29) + 2p + ((p + 29) + 13) = 4p + 71 calories

apple = p + 29
since that's 13 less than banana, then banana has 13 MORE, so p + 29 + 13
OK?
