It takes 8 bags of mortar and 30 gallons of water to make cement. How many bags of mortar would it take for 100 gallons of water? How many gallons of water for 1/2 bag of mortar?

I'm having problems setting up the equation. I think I got the first question. Would it be:

8/30 = x/100 which would equal 26.6 bags of mortar but the second question is stumping me. Would it be the same as the first question:

8/30 = .5/x?

Thanks for any help in what I'm missing.

Re: Word Problem

That's correct.

How many gallons for 1/2 bag:

\(\displaystyle \frac{4}{15}=\frac{1}{2x}\)

Solve for x.
