A sports league of n teams in which each team plays every other team twice, the total number of N of games to be played is given by N= n^2 - n How many teams are in a softball league if the total number of games played is 182?

Im lost dont even know where to start? Is this anywhere close if not please help

N = 182^2 - 182

182 x 182 33124

33124-182 N = 32942

you did an incorrect substitution ... "N" is the number of games.

182 = n[sup:2oh9v70o]2[/sup:2oh9v70o] - n

now solve the quadratic for "n", the number of teams.
