Can you write an equation for a relation that has the domain but different ranges?

For example, can you write an equation for these ordered pairs?

(-6, -2) (5, 8) (5, 4)

Re: Relations and Equations

Well, if you graph these 3 points, you'll get a triangle sides 4, sqrt(11^2 + 6^2), sqrt(11^2, 10^2).
SO what are you asking?

Re: Relations and Equations

sure can. here's one possible equation ...

\(\displaystyle x=-\frac{11}{60}y^2 + \frac{11}{5}y -\frac{13}{15}\)

there are infinitely many more.
