solve a(y + 1) = b for y; solve (3/5)y + a = b for y

1: a(y + 1) = b Solve for y

2: (3/5)y + a = b Solve for y

I to be quite honest have little clue how to even start the problems...

So, could someone give me a couple pointers on how to get going on the problems?

Like what to +/- from either side?

\(\displaystyle ay + a = b\)

\(\displaystyle ay = b - a\)

\(\displaystyle y = \frac{b - a}{a}\)

or ...

\(\displaystyle a(y+1) = b\)

\(\displaystyle y+1 = \frac{b}{a}\)

\(\displaystyle y = \frac{b}{a} - 1\)

\(\displaystyle \frac{3}{5}y = b - a\)

\(\displaystyle y = \frac{5}{3}(b - a)\)
