In 2006 the population of Mexico was 107.4 million. If Mexico's population continues to grow at an annual rate of 1.43%, then the population in 2028 will be 107.4(1.0143)(to the 14th power) million.

A) Find the predicted population in 2020 to the nearest tenth of a million people.

I stink at word applications and I don't have a clue how to set up this equation. Can anyone help me?

Pam

Well, the "2028" is obviously a typo: should be 2020.

And the equation is ALREADY set up for you: 2020 population = 107.4 * (1.0143)^14; so take out your calculator
(do you "see" that 2020 - 2006 = 14, and 1.43% = .0143 ?)

And may I suggest you quit using "word applications" as a copout
