This one is giving me fits. It doesn't seem to match up to any of the sample problems I have. Please help with:

25% of people play tennis
42% of people golf
16% of people do both

What is the probability of selecting one person who plays tennis or eats out?

You seem to have a typo in there . . . "eat out"?

You should have been taught this formula:

. . . \(\displaystyle P(A \vee B) \;=\;P(A) + P(B) - P(A \wedge B)\)

Sorry about the "eat out" deal. I was trying to do another problem at the same time. So...
It is as simple as adding (25% + 16%) + (42% + 16) - 16% ??

It is (25 + 42 -16 =) 51%

got it, thanks a lot. I did find reference to that formula but the example was quite different so I didn't make the connection to my problem. Thanks again.
