For this class i am actually a student.. trying to teach the class. The book i am reading is very formal and this topic is stumping me. here is what i know, and where i currently am... if any one could help me fill in blanks and other things i would greatly appreciate it.

I have done sample problems of estimating results. By this i mean finding the equation of the least squares line, and using it to estimate the result. After this I am reading about r^2 in regression.

It gives an example and graphs it using scatter plots.
{x = 0 3 6}
{y = 0 10 2}

And it states that the relationship isn't that great so we use the average for y. Then... it says that SST = E(y-[avg]y)^2. After this they use the example to make geometric squares.. and i have no idea how they got the areas of the squares, or anything of the matter.

If any one is great with stat and could help me.. i have to teach this class tomorrow and i would love some help learning.
