Trying to help my son with this problem & I can't remember where to start. Here's the problem

Slove for X

pc/x=c/p

Re: I have no clue where to start with this problem

Start by getting the symbol for which you are trying to solve out from the denominator of a fraction.

We do this by multiplying both sides of the equation by x.

If you need more help with this exercise, then please show any work that you've been able to accomplish and try to say something about why you're stuck.

Cheers,

~ Mark :)

This is a classic proportion.

pc/x=c/p

Multiply means and extremes: c • x = p • pc

cx= p^2 c

Divide by c.

x = p^2

Hey Fast Eddie:

Unless c = classic and p = proportion, please cite your source. :wink:

On a more serious note, I believe that beginning algebraists should focus on multiplicative and additive inverses, prior to learning means and extremes.

Thanks for all your help. My son was able to get the answer by starting with multipling both sides by x. Having a son in algerbra sure has been a refresher for the brain!
