I have no step guideline with which to work out this problem. Can someone please show me the way? This is my last resort.

Make a system my friend :

y - 3x = -4
2y +x = 6

Let's find the x value ,

-2y + 6x = + 8
2y + x = 6

7x = 14
x = 2 , Replace the value of x in any of the initial equations to find y .

I advice you to visit this website http://www.purplemath.com/modules/systlin5.htm
