I'd be grateful if anyone could help me on this one.

Alan is x years old. His father's age is 6 years less than the square of Alan's age. IF the sum of their ages is 50years. write an equation in x and solve it to find alan's age.

Many thanks in advance.

father = x^2 - 6 : got that?

So x + x^2 - 6 = 50 : ok?
