HELP

the problem is "In 2003 the gross domestic product (GDP) for the US was abowt 11 trillion dollars, and the order of magnitude of the population of the US was 10[sup:3asp3x3p]8[/sup:3asp3x3p]. use the order of magnitude to find the approximate per capita (per person) GDP.

How would you set up this problem, and what is Magnitude? :?: :?: :?: :?:

the problem is "In 2003 the gross domestic product (GDP) for the US was abowt 11 trillion dollars, and the order of magnitude of the population of the US was 108. use the order of magnitude to find the approximate per capita (per person) GDP.

How would you set up this problem, and what is Magnitude?

10^3 = one thousand
10^6 = one million
10^9 = one billion
10^12 = one trillion

An “order of magnitude” means a power of ten. The “magnitude of the population” just means the population was approximated by a power of ten, in this case 10^8.

In math, the word “per” indicates division, so the GDP per capita means the GDP divided by the number of people:

($11 x 10^12)/(10^8)

Get it?
