Hi, I am new and returning to school at 45. I would like to take a placement test to determine where i should start , it's been a while. Any ideas?

Sure, study!

Really, don't even stress over it. The point of a placement test is proper placement. You SHOULD NOT try to better than you can, This will put you inthe wrong class and you will struggle. Just relax and show them what you can do.

Go to a community college. Most of them administer low-cost placement tests for State residents.

You could also get an idea of how much you've forgotten by watching some videos and trying exercises on-line, all for free. If you have the time, you could discover (within a few hours) how much there is to re-learn.

For videos, I like this site:

http://www.khanacademy.org

You could start in the arithmetic section, and work up.

Here's an algebra site:

http://www.purplemath.com/

Check out the links there about lessons, tutoring, quizzes, and other useful sites.

Here's a site with "elementary" math explanations:

http://www.coolmath.com/

Come back here and post specific questions about anything that you don't understand. With actual exercises, please show any work that you can. 8-)
