What is the greatest possible product that can be formed by two integers whose sum is -256? Please show your work.

Re: Math

Your work or my work?

Two Numbers: x and y -- That was easy.

Sum is -256: x + y = -256 -- That was easy.

Examine x*y.

x + y = - 256.

So, y = - (x + 256).

Let u = xy = -(x[sup:2mqmax6c]2[/sup:2mqmax6c] + 256x).

Where is u maximized?
