I am just starting to learn about graphs of functions. My exercise problem is to provide a table of values (from -3 to +3 for X) and then graph this function: F(x) = 1/2 X^2. My graphing calculator (and my answer key) tells me thatif X=-3, then Y=4.5 (positive).
I am reading this as one-half of X-squared. So, negative 3 squared would be negative nine... halved would be negative 4.5... but, obviously, I'm reading it wrong. Why?
Thanks! I'm sure I'll be posting a lot of questions.
