With respect to the thread located here:

For the following data calculate sampling distribution parameters.

m=80, sigma=10, s=8, n=25 for E[M] and SE[M]

is this a mean question?? Apparently they want an answer in general and sample mode right?
So you have \(\displaystyle \mu = 80, \sigma = 10, s=8, n=25\)

Then \(\displaystyle E(X) = \mu\) and \(\displaystyle SE = \frac{\sigma}{\sqrt{n}}\)
Will you explain further or rather provide another example, this time when the standard deviation is not known?

Thanks Phil,
However I disagree, if we know what we are doing then the doing gets done; respectfully. It seems to me everything in between is stagnant and confusing! But then this is my first bout with statistics. Again thanks for your insightful replies and words of wisdom, they do help and I am grateful...

Thank you for your comment on my tag line! Perhaps the difference between the two philosophies is the difference between "science" and "engineering." As a physicist I am trying to learn something new, so that the engineers can make it useful.
