Another Probability Question

\(\displaystyle P(A \cup B) = P(A) + P(B) - P(A \cap B)\)

What does this mean? How does this relate to the bell curve?

I know the first part means the union of A and B equals the probability of A plus the probability of B minus ?? :confused:
