Hi. Hoping someone on here can help with what I'm assuming is some rudimentary maths but causes me trouble.

I coach my son's sports team and regularly have to arrange matches with multiple clubs and teams. I resort to pen and paper longhand to try and come up with the best permutations to try for the best schedule of matches so that the teams get to play as few games from the same club as possible. I'm sure some simple maths principles could get me a more efficient system.

Example:
Three clubs
Club A has 10 teams at the event
Club B has 8 teams
Club C has 4 teams

Each team to play four times at event.

The goal is to have as few matches within a club as possible (ie team from a against another team from a).

I'd love to have a maths based system to address how best to arrange these matches so that when the variables change (# clubs, # teams or # matches) I don't have to work it out longhand each time.

Thanks in advance!
