I am having a little difficulty in understanding why the square of the amplitude of a distribution function give the probability of that event. In particular how this translates into the product of a complex number and its conjugate to give a probability.

Is there an article or document that explains this. I have checked the web for various explanations but nothing seems to explain it clearly. Let me rephrase that to say that I am not getting an understanding from all that I have read.
