Hi!

I came across this word problem and was wondering if I could get some help:

The admission fee at an amusement park is $ 1.50 for children and $ 4.00 for adults. On a certain day, 260 people entered the park, and the admission fees collected totaled $690 . How many children and how many adults were admitted?

I came up with x(1.5) + y(4) = (690/260) but I dont think this is right.

Thanks!

By what reasoning (like here) did you arrive at this equation? For what do "x" and "y" stand? What is the meaning of "690/260"?

Please be complete. Thank you! ;)
