If a fault occurs once in every 120 days, and I have 260 working days, what is the probability of this fault occurring over that 260 day period. I initially thought that by dividing 260 by 120 would equate to 2.16 days out of 260 and by dividing 2.16 by 260 that would give me a probability of 0.0083. I am sure I am doing this wrong...can anyone help
many thanks Rab1

As stated, this problem does not quite make sense!

Are you assured (100%) that a fault will develop within 120 days?

I always work with what I am given. If a fault WILL occur once in every 120 days, and you have 260 working days then the probability of this fault occurring over that 260 day period is 1.
