Annuity type of calculation: invest $150,000 at 8% for 10 years

Suppose I invest $150,000 today into an account that earns interest at 8%. After 10 years I begin withdrawing "x" dollars every month. What is the max value "x" can be if I want to continue making withdrawals for 50 years (so 60 total years after the account's inception)? How would one...

    Probability of skiing

You really want to go on the annual ski trip with your construction company. There are 20 people on the project and 5 will be allowed to go. If the first three have already been chosen randomly, what is the probability that you'll be chosen to go? The decision is made through a random drawing...

Possibly an infinite sequence of logs

Let a and b be natural numbers with a < b. Simplify: log2a(2a+1) * log2a+1(2a+2) * log2a+3(2a+3) .... log2b-1(2b) I have an engineering degree but am still completely stumped on this. Any one have a suggestion?

    Cosh Algebra

The problem is, Show that 5e^x+4e^x can be written in the form A*Cosh(x+c) and solve for the constants A and c. I rewrote the Cosh to get 5e^x+4e^x=A/2*(e^(x+c)+e^-(x+c)) Then I did some pseudomath and broke it up term by term to get the system 5e^x=A/2*(e^(x+c)) 4e^x=A/2 *e^-(x+c) Then I...

Integration using complex numbers (Euler's theorem)

Hi, I'm stuck on a homework question. Calculate Integral of Cos(x)^8 from 0 to 2pi by writing cos(x) as .5(e^ix+e^-1x) No idea where to start after the substitution. Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

    Matrix help

I need a little help with a homework question. "Give an example to show that the product of two symmetric matrices is not necessarily symmetric. " I've tried several symmetric matrices, and they all give a symmetric product. I can't think of another method other than just brut force trying a...

    Vector question

Hi, I'm a little stuck on this vector problem I'd appreciate any thoughts. Suppose the vectors (A+B) and (A?B) are orthogonal. What, if anything, can you conclude about A and B? I have a feeling that you can say A and B are also orthogonal. Is this right, and if so how could I prove it? Thanks!

    Limit of an infinite Series

I have a problem that reads Assuming that Lim(as n approaches infinity) of 1/n^c = 0 if c is any positive constant, show that Lim (as n approaches infinity) of ln(n)/n^c =0. I just sort of understand the denmoniator will become much bigger than the numerator as n...

    Help with Limits

I'm having trouble with 2 limits problems. If you can help with either, that would be great. 1. Lim ((3[sup:1j67559c]2[/sup:1j67559c]-1)/x) as x approaches 0 For this one I don't really even know where to start. Conjugates maybe? but I'm not quite sure how to use those in this situation...

area of a rectangle inscribed in a circle

I'm having trouble with the following problem. What are the dimensions of the rectangle of the greatest area which can be inscribed in a circle of radius 2? I'm not sure how to get an equation for the area of the rectangle. Once I have an equation I know how the find the maximum, I just need...

    second derivitive problem help

Here is the problem. Suppose f(3)=2, f ' (3)= 5 and f "(3)= -2. Then d^2/dx^2 (f^2(x)) at x= 3 is equal to... My first instinct would be simply to square f "(3) and get 4. However it is a multiple choice question and that is not one of the choices. How do you do this type of problem?
