Find the missing number x in x + (x * 35%) = 100

Hi, Im having trouble getting to this one.

x + (x * 35%) = 100
find x

I could try to guess what the x is but Im making a spreadsheet that would automatically produce the x with the given number and percentage.

There is only one value (solution) for x.

I'm wondering whether you really need to program a spreadsheet for this because a little bit of algebra (using paper and pencil) can find x without much effort. Is this spreadsheet task a specific school assignment?

x * 35%

This expression represents 35% of the number x.

If we rewrite the equation using decimal form for 35% of x, does it help you to proceed?

x + 0.35x = 100

Hint for next step: "combine like-terms".

You posted this to "arithemetic", rather than to "pre-algebra" (for percentages) or "algebra" (for working with variables and equations). Have you not yet studied pre-algebra or algebra? If not, what method, rule, or other tools did your class give you for doing this sort of thing? If so, where are you stuck in the beginning-algebra process of solving "1.35x = 100"?
