Hi,

I am in need of lots of help.

The question I am struggling with is as follows:

240 houses will be built on the new Land. 25% of these will be affordable housing.
Of the remaining houses we must build two 4 bedroom houses for every five 3 bed houses.
How many affordable, 4 bed and 3 bed houses will there be?

I know 25% is 60 which leaves 180 for the 3 and 4 bed houses but I cannot work the rest out without going over 180 houses!!

PLEASE HELP!!

No exact answer is possible. You can build 51 four bedrooms and 129 three bedrooms,
but 21.5 * 5 = 127.5, not 129. You can build 52 and 128, but 5 * 26 = 130, not 128.

Out of those 180 houses, we need to build (180*2/7) four bedroom houses and (180*5/7) 3-bedroom houses. However, the numbers are not integers - so the problem statement might be faulty!
