When you climb up, your height gets bigger because you are adding to your height.

When you climb down, your height gets smaller because you are subtracting from your height.

Therefore, starting with your initial height 12, add the distances you went up and subtract the distance you went down.

If you would like us to check your answer, please also show your work.
My height never gets bigger than 5'10" (max. may be a bit shorter now!).

My driver's license indicates 5'10", but my doctor says I'm 5'9".

After reading your post, I feel more like 5'8".

(I edited my post.)

Feet "kinda flatten" as one gets older.
Among other things! I think that's where the phrase "settle into retirement" comes from. :p
