MOZAA: What's the math behind this game?

It would be awesome if your question made any sense. You tell us your best guess. We'll be happy to comment.

The referenced page indicates three different versions of the rules. Are you asking about one of them, in particular?

My first thought is that "the math behind this game" is topology.

It would be awesome if you were of any help.

It would be most awesome if you were to read the actual rules for engaging on this website. Please find and read the rules for posting. We are here to help students of mathematics. It is required of you to show your personal efforts. We are not your personal consulting service. Let's see what you have. I you have nothing, that is where the conversation ends.

WHO says there is such a "formula"?
There is not. As far as I can see there are 88 possible distinct configurations (not counting rotations). How they go from 88 to 64 seems to be absolutely open.
